With a squad that has already been severely hit with injury, more bad news awaited England fans on Tuesday morning as it was confirmed that Sam Simmonds will miss his country’s next two Six Nations matches.
The number eight picked up a shoulder injury during England’s narrow victory over Wales that has since caused some controversy due to a shocking TMO decision which World Rugby has now accepted was incorrect.
England are already missing Billy Vunipola at eight and it now looks like Wasps’ Nathan Hughes is set to come in for the upcoming fixtures with the news on Simmonds two match layoff confirmed.
Eddie Jones did state that Simmonds will ‘hopefully’ return for what should be a do or die clash with Ireland to close the tournament, however, it remains to be seen if the Exeter man will return to fitness in time.
Meanwhile, Jones also confirmed that seven players have now been cut from his current squad and instructed to rejoin their club sides.
