England coach Eddie Jones has named a 31-man squad for the upcoming tour of Argentina – and the big news is that Denny Solomona will be on the plane.

The Sale Sharks wing, who recently converted back to union from league on controversial circumstances, has been named in a squad that also includes Ospreys (and future Bath) flanker Sam Underhill for the two tests against Argentina in June.

With sixteen England regulars missing due to inclusion in Warren Gatland’s Lions squad, Jones was always going to have to experiment with new ideas, and has chosen the tour to blood a whole host of new faces.

In the forwards, Underhill (whom Jones has been monitoring for international selection for some time now) Will Collier, Ben and Tom Curry, Nick Isiekwe and Harry Williams will all get the chance to impress the coach. The likes of captain Dylan Hartley, James Haskell and Joe Lauchbury meanwhile, all of whom were hoping to be going to New Zealand this summer, will instead be facing the Pumas.

In the backs, meanwhile, Joe Cokanasiga, Nathan Earle, Piers Francis, Sam James, Alex Lozowski, Jack Maunder and Solomona are named for the first time in amongst a wealth of experience that includes vice-captains Mike Brown, Danny Care and George Ford.
