Sale Sharks’ number eight Josh Beaumont has been called up to the England squad as an injury replacement for Courtney Lawes, the RFU has announced.

Beaumont was announced as Sale Sharks’ captain for this season and has been one of the club’s best performers, particularly at the set-piece, where he has enjoyed some of the best lineout stats in the whole Premiership.
The number eight’s omission from the reduced 33-man England squad announced this week was something of a shock to many, with Gloucester number eight Ben Morgan being given a shot instead. However, the son of England legend Bill Beaumont will be given another chance to prove his worth to England coach Eddie Jones this week.
