Did Fiji’s Captain Propose After Winning Olympic Gold?

For those who bothered to keep watching after the medals were handed out following the Olympics sevens final, there was one more spark that made the showpiece occasion so touching.

After already endearing themselves to the rugby world, there seemed to be another moment following the conclusion of the game on Thursday night that could remain with us for a long time.

After posing for a number of pictures, Fijian captain Osea Kolinisau sprinted away to the stands behind one of the goalposts. He climbed on the fence and presented his medal to a stunning Polynesian woman. They talked for a while, after which she seemed to say “yes, yes, yes, yes”, and embraced him.

It was unclear whether Kolinisau then took his medal back or she handed it back to him, but the whole scene did cause a great dealĀ of speculation on social media, according to the Fiji Times.

Kolinisau met his Tongan girlfriendĀ Mere Tavu Fa in Las Vegas in 2014, where she was on holiday and watching the sevens tournament he was playing in.

Undoubtedly we will all know more by the 22nd of August, the day that has been declared a national holiday in Fiji in honour of their heroes.
