Almost to a man, the British and Irish Lions put in heroic performances this morning as they claimed a massively unexpected win against the All Blacks.
There were a number of genuine contenders for man of the match with Maro Itoje and Sean O’Brien rivalling try scorers Conor Murray and Taulupe Faletau for the title. The consensus among most fans, however, is that the whole team raised their game significantly.
We asked you earlier today to rate every Lion out of ten and you have answered in your droves. Mako Vunipola came out worse, scoring just 5 and only narrowly avoided a 4. Itoje and Murray, meanwhile, were both adjudged to have deserved 9/10 with the former almost managing to grab a 10. Here are the final results.
Following his disappointing showing in the Cake Tin, Vunipola was widely criticised both for his scrummaging and in open play. Fans on Twitter seem convinced Ireland’s Jack McGrath will take the Saracens man’s place for the deciding third Test.
With strong showings from both, the 10-12 axis of Johnny Sexton and Farrell could well continue for the final game with the Leinster out-half’s experience unquestionably appealing to the Lions coaching team.
Warren Gatland will announce his team for Saturday’s encounter in midweek.
