David Pocock Given Three Week Ban For Neck Grab

Brumbies and Australia flanker David Pocock has been hit with a three week ban, after he grabbed Michael Leitch by the neck during his side’s 48-23 loss to the Chiefs last weekend.

He will miss the next two matches, as the Brumbies have a bye-week in this period.

The incident occurred during the 74th minute of the game, as the Chiefs looked to maul the Brumbies down field. In the footage below, it is clearly evident that Pocock not only grabs Leitch around the neck, but does not let go even after the Chiefs forward taps him on the back on a number of occasions.

Indeed, from the footage, it looks as if Leitch is tapping Pocock to gain his attention rather than trying to aggressively strike the Wallaby flanker.

As a result, the citing commissioner judged the incident to have met the threshold for a red card, and Pocock will now miss two games.

It is Pocock’s first suspension in a decade of tests and Super Rugby.

SANZAAR duty judicial officer Adam Cassleden explained the decision, as reported by FOX Sports.

“Having conducted a detailed review of all the available evidence, including all camera angles and additional evidence, including from the player and submissions from his legal representative I accepted the player’s admission that he had committed an act of foul play.”

Some may feel that David Pocock has gotten off lightly here.
