Conor O’Shea Linked With Harlequins Exit

Conor O’Shea could be about to leave Harlequins.

When rumours of Italy’s interest in Conor O’Shea first began to circulate, we were of course sceptical. O’Shea has after all, built a strong team at Harlequins who play an attractive brand of rugby.

Indeed in the aftermath of the World Cup, it seemed far more likely that O’Shea would replace Stuart Lancaster as England coach rather than pitch up in Rome.

However it would now appear that the Italy are increasingly confident that O’Shea will take over from Jacques Brunel.

To sweeten a potential deal, the Italian Rugby Federation intend to approach Ronan O’Gara to become O’Shea’s assistant. Although we reported that O’Gara was being sounded out by Italy to become ‘part of a potentially exciting management team’, it was unclear as to who the head coach would be at the time.

The news was reported by French based rugby writer, Gavin Mortimer, last night and probably has strong foundation.

Although some would dismiss such rumours, O’Shea has been linked with the position since the early summer, and while the O’Gara dimension is a recent development, it is consistent with what we previously reported.
