Clermont Backs Recalled To France Training Squad

during the 2015 Rugby World Cup Quarter Final match between New Zealand and France at the Millennium Stadium on October 17, 2015 in Cardiff, United Kingdom.

Both Wesley Fofana and Scott Spedding were recalled into the French 31-man squad a few days ago.

Fofana dropped out before the first match of the Six Nations with an injury to the ribs. Spedding picked up a knee injury in the match against Italy and has not featured since.

The bulky South African full-back returning to the team will be a great relief for Guy Novès. While Spedding does not have the agility and imagination we all like to see from French full-backs, his bullocking runs always seem to make an impact.

Fofana looks to be a replacement for the injured Teddy Thomas and Novès has indicated he might want to try and play Fofana on the wing. As Fofana is normally a centre, this could be risky, but if he does well, it could be incredibly rewarding.

A player still missing from the French side is experienced scrum half, and producer of French points by virtue of his accurate boot, is Morgan Parra. He too picked up an injury before the tournament and has not yet recovered.

Dropped from the squad is Jean-Marc Doussain. Novès has given no clear reason for his dismissal.

The final squad for the match against Scotland is expected to be announced today.
