Leinster and Ireland prop Cian Healy has signed a new contract with the IRFU that will see him remain in Dublin for another three years.
‘Church’ has had his struggles with injuries, but on his day is regarded as one of the world’s best loosehead props.
While Leinster released the news yesterday that a raft of players signed new deals, the former Newbridge College student was not included, but today’s news ends the speculation about his future.
The 28 year-old spoke to the Leinster website of his delight at the new deal.
“I feel that I am coming back to full fitness now and would like to thank the medical and S&C teams for their ongoing support. There are a lot of exciting young talented players coming through at Leinster and Ireland and I am looking forward to competing for silverware over the next few seasons.”
Healy must concentrate on winning his place back from Jack McGrath, who has thrived since taking his opportunity in Healy’s absence.
This is more positive news coming out of the IRFU after a good month of business, where several of the highest profile players have committed to the cause.
