Saracens winger Chris Ashton has been linked with a move away from the defending Premiership and Champions Cup winners, with The Telegraph reporting that the former rugby league star may be lured back to the 13-man code.
His old club, Wigan, are reportedly the side interested in bringing the 29-year-old to the Super League once more.
Ashton scored 24 tries in 47 games with the Wigan Warriors prior to signing for the Northampton Saints in 2007, and after nine indifferent years playing union, the suspended England wing may be tempted to return to rugby league after his hopes of a return to the England team this autumn were dashed when he received a 13-week ban for biting Northampton winger Alex Waller last weekend.
Although Wigan have yet to publicly comment on the links between Ashton and the club, the player did reveal in 2012 that he would be open to a return to league, telling The Mirror‘s Simon Head:
“I wouldn’t mind a game. It would be interesting to see if I could go back and slip back in.
“I’d like to give it a try because I still watch it. I’m still a Wigan fan. If someone asked me, and the club was okay with it, yeah I’d give it a go.”
