England and Harlequins prop Joe Marler has announced that he is retiring from international rugby, effective immediately.
Citing ‘personal reasons’, Marler has officially stepped away from the international game after earning 59 caps for England.
At 28-years-old, the news will certainly come as a shock to most people. Marler has apparently made it clear that he wishes to spend more time with his family and as a result of this, he will bring his six-year association with the national side to an end.
It will no doubt be a setback to Eddie Jones English squad as they look to come through with an impressive twelve month period before next year’s World Cup.
England are set to face South Africa, New Zealand, Japan, and Australia in the November autumn internationals.
