Dylan Hartley’s appointment as England captain could be regarded as a gamble.
Despite many commentators and former players arguing against Dylan Hartley being appointed England captain, the Northampton hooker was yesterday handed the role by Eddie Jones.
Last weekend saw Lewis Moody add his name to the long list of individuals pleading with Jones to consider an alternative to Hartley.
Writing in the Mail on Sunday, Moody pointed to the hookers indiscipline, and even argued that Hartley has not learned from any of the bans imposed on him.
As a result, William Hill are offering odds of 16/1 on Hartley being sent off during the Six Nations. A spokesman from the bookmaker told New Zealand publication, Stuff,
Dylan has a shocking disciplinary record and in the heat of the moment he could be prone to a further lapse in judgement.
Indeed, while some would expect Hartley to soften his attitude after being given the responsibility of captaincy, yesterday he told reporters that he will continue to play a ‘direct and confrontational game’.
