Eben Etzebeth is set to miss another international as he has failed to recover from a concussion sustained against England.
Etzebeth also missed last Saturday’s loss to Italy, and with a serious lack of momentum the Springboks will need all the experience the 25-year-old has to offer.
However, Springbok head coach Allister Coetzee only had bad news to report on Monday.
“It is highly unlikely he would be ready for this weekend. Eben didn’t pass his protocols on Sunday, that makes it unlikely,” the 53-year-old is quoted by Reuters as saying.
Focus now turns to this weekend’s game against the Welsh and when questioned on his approach to Saturday’s test, Coetzee had this to say:
“The message to the team is simple – we’d like to finish on a high and fight back from where we currently are.
“We need to get out of the hole we are in, play well and finish the season well. Every game is important to us and this is no different.”
No replacement will be called up for Etzebeth, with Lood de Jager, Pieter-Steph du Toit and Franco Mostert still available to cover the second row for this must-win game for South Africa.
