The IRFU were hoping that Ian Madigan would join Munster.
Although it has been widely reported that the IRFU had been encouraging Ian Madigan to join Munster, it appears that the Leinster playmaker is in advanced talks with Top 14 side, Bordeaux-Bègles.
The news was reported by L’Equipe this morning, with the French publication suggesting that Madigan met with Bordeaux-Bègles officials on Monday. Although the deal has not yet been done, Bordeaux are confident of signing the 25 times capped Irish fly half.
Given the fact that Bordeaux missed out on Matt Toomua and are currently looking for someone who can play both 10 and 12, things are looking ominous for both the IRFU and Munster.
However, as L’Equipe also state that Bordeaux have three outhalves in their squad, Pierre Bernard, Romain Lonca and Lionel Beauxis and that moving to France would endanger his international career, a deal is not yet certain.
