Ridiculous skill from Beauden Barrett…
With the Rugby Championship in full swing, South Africa headed for New Zealand today with many quietly fancying an upset.
The Springboks are undefeated as of yet in 2017, after a series win over France in June, back-to-back victories over Argentina, and a hard-fought draw with Australia in Perth.
They headed for New Zealand today eager to make a statement, and to well and truly put a disastrous 2016 to bed.
However, the All Blacks were in the mood for a statement of their own.
Right from the off, they have put pressure on the South Africans, and have given no leeway to their visitors. There were some question marks hanging over the World Cup champions. 2017 has seen them fail to get an expected series win over the Lions, and by their own impeccably high standards, the home games against Australia and Argentina were too close for comfort.
Undoubtedly the moment of today’s first half came when Nehe Milner-Skudder broke to intercept a pass, before delightfully combining with Beauden Barrett to create a try of true beauty.
The All Blacks went on to score a record victory, on a scoreline of 57-0.
