Anthony Watson’s Red Card Against Saracens Amused His Brother No End

Saracens scored a significant victory over Bath on Saturday night, raiding the Recreation Ground recording a 30-10 win. This was helped in no small part by Anthony Watson’s red card early in the second half.

The England winger ran to challenge for a high kick, but mistimed his challenge, and ended up turning Saracens fullback Alex Goode over onto his head.

The incident can be seen here.

While there was undoubtedly no malice involved, it was certainly reckless, and the referee was right to send him off.

Chris Ashton was certainly not impressed by the challenge.

Marcus Watson, older brother of Anthony, recently switched from Sevens to rugby union, and plays for Newcastle Falcons. Like all big brothers, he could not help feeling a certain sense of amusement at the whole affair, and took to Twitter to take a pop at his red-carded brother.

It was a harmless bit of fun and banter.

Although the referee was probably right to give Watson his marching orders, it was not an intentional challenge, and there will be no bad blood between the England teammates.
