Alan Quinlan launched a massive broadside against Eddie Jones this morning.
Writing in this morning’s Irish Independent, not only did Alan Quinlan argue that Eddie Jones was both arrogant and disrespectful, but compared the England coach to Jose Mourinho.
Eddie Jones is arrogant, a poor man’s version of Jose Mourinho, without as many medals or the Portuguese accent.
Quinlan’s comments came after the England coach first compared Ireland’s style of play to an Aussie Rules team, then seemingly plucked incorrect statistics out of the air, claiming that Joe Schmidt’s side kicked away 70% of their possession.
However what angered Quinlan most was Jones’ comments in relation to the series of concussions suffered by Johnny Sexton.
On Thursday, the England coach questioned whether Johnny Sexton’s parents were concerned for their son’s well-being, an issue Quinlan believes is ‘none of his concern’.
Indeed, the former Irish international went further, arguing that Jones had ‘boundary of respect and brought Johnny Sexton’s parents into the argument on Thursday… His job is to worry about his own players, not ours’.
If that was not enough, Quinlan demanded that Jones should ‘respect the position he holds’ and accused him of being ‘downright rude’.
As a result Quinlan believes that Jones has delivered Schmidt’s team talk for him, ‘these things fire players up. I know because I have been there’.
