This week’s AIL Game of the Week is St. Mary’s vs Cork Con. Kevin Hegarty was there to capture all the action.
Ten minutes later Crotty would extend the lead to 10-3 after St. mary’s were awarded a penalty. The seven point lead remained intact for the remainder of the half.
It didn’t take long for Cork Con to edge back in to the game. Quinlan found his scoring boots and converted a penalty to reduce the deficit to four points with the score at 10-6.
Quinlan again converted at the 55 minute mark after a great drive and pressure from the Cork Con pack in the scum led to a try. The game had swung in favour of Cork Con, 10-13.
St. Mary’s needed to respond and respond is what they did. It came on the 60 minute mark. The try, scored by Ryan O’Loughlin was exceptional. After a number of phases attacking from the 10m line. The ball was spun out to Steve Toal-Lennon who was in off his wing in outside centre and teed Ryan up with a great switch ball behind him to put Ryan through the gap to score in style.
Great team work and a great finish by the St.Gerard’s duo. Crotty was unable to convert leaving St Mary’s with a 15-13 lead which they held, giving them the narrowest of victories.
