Agustin Creevy could be set for a move to France.
The money on offer in France means that very few players are out of the reach of Top 14 clubs. Throughout the last number of years, Toulon’s financial advantage has been eroded by like of Montpellier and Racing 92 who have each invested heavily in their squads.
Indeed, last season not only saw Sonny Bill Williams offered a record breaking contract with Toulon, but David Pocock, who was heavily linked with Bordeaux Begles in the immediate aftermath of the World Cup.
Therefore it would seem that despite the best efforts of the FFR to impose selection quotas in the form of the JIFF regulations, French clubs continue to look to bring in overseas players as opposed to nurture indigenous talent.
Arguably the worst culprits are Montpellier, whose squad includes 10 South African internationals and are said to have agreed a three year deal with Ruan Pienaar.
Therefore it comes as little surprise to see Jake White’s side linked with a move for Agustin Creevy, as short term cover for the injured Bismarck Du Plessis.
Although the Argentinian hooker previously played with Montpellier between 2011 and 2013, critics will argue such a move will limit the game time available to the French qualified, Charles Géli.
While Géli will start against Bayonne on Saturday, White told Midi Libre that he is likely to sign two hookers in the coming weeks. When you consider that Kevin Mealamu is the other player being linked with Montpellier, things don’t look good for the unfortunate Géli.
