Diving, simulating injury, and conning the referee has its place. That place is not on a rugby field.
This video from a Samoan game shows two players trading shadow blows, before the bigger of the pair dropped to the ground in front of the referee, hoping to draw a red card.
Not only was the ref not having it, as he patted the stricken player on the back, but the rest of the players looked on in disbelief as the crowd roared laughing.
This reaction sums up why rugby is great, and conveys that the sport’s values are not in danger of being forgotten anytime soon.
