Yesterday, just two days before the official unveiling of the British & Irish Lions squad, a report from The Telegraph suggested that a surprising sextet of England internationals are set to miss out on selection.

According to Telegraph sources, Chris Robshaw, George Ford, Jonathan Joseph, James Haskell, Mike Brown and Joe Launchbury will all be missing from Warren Gatland’s 37-man squad for that daunting summer tour of New Zealand.

Today, Sky Sports revealed that their sources concur with those of the Telegraph on the omission of Joseph, Ford, Brown and Launchbury. Haskell and Robshaw were not mentioned in their report.

However, Sky’s sources also claimed that Welsh centre Jamie Roberts will be a part of the squad.

Though he was previously selected to don the famed red jersey for the 2009 and 2013 tours, Roberts’ selection would be something of a surprise. After all, the 30-year-old did not start for Wales in any of their Six Nations games in 2017, although he did make substitute appearances throughout the competition and scored a 78th minute try against Ireland in Cardiff.

The British & Irish Lions squad will be named tomorrow, Wednesday April 19th, at 12 noon.
