Leinster Duo Sent Home From South Africa

Leinster have confirmed that the two players previously refused visas for entry to South Africa have been sent home.

The Irish province confirmed earlier reports that Jamison Gibson-Park and Isa Nacewa encountered problems upon arrival in Johannesburg ahead of this weekend’s Pro14 clash against Southern Kings and Cheetahs, and while they were in discussions at the time to have the matter resolved, the result has not gone their way.

In a brief statement on Wednesday evening, Leinster said:

“Leinster Rugby can confirm that both Jamison Gibson-Park and Isa Nacewa have not been granted a visa at this point in time and will as a result return to Dublin at the earliest opportunity.

“Nick McCarthy has been called up to the touring squad as a result and will arrive tomorrow.

“Leinster Rugby will be making no further comment on this matter.”

The disruption is sure to cause major problems for Leo Cullen’s preparation for the two games as the two players are fundamental parts of his plans. How Leinster adapt remains to be seen but it is something of a major hassle for the organisers of the new competition if this kind of thing happens again.
