Connacht look set to be on the hunt for a new head coach with reports suggesting that Kieran Keane is to part ways with the province.

The Irish Independent have alleged that Keane is to part ways with Connacht just one season into a three-year deal, after a frustrating season in the Pro14.

The former Chiefs assistant coach took over from Pat Lam at the beginning of the 2017/18 season but this campaign has not been plain sailing for the 64-year-old at the Sportsground. Although the 2016 champions enjoyed a comprehensive final-day win against Leinster on Saturday, it came at the end of a season in which they lost 14 of 21 fixtures and finished second-bottom of Conference A.

In Europe, meanwhile, they made the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup but that was not enough to save the ex-All Black’s position.

The report suggests that an announcement from Connacht could be made in the near future, with the process to identify a replacement for Keane apparently already in motion.

The latest high-profile departure comes just days after captain and legend John Muldoon hung up his boots after fifteen years at Connacht with the to begin his coaching career with Lam at Bristol.
