World Cup Quarter-Final Draw Confirmed After Superb Japan Victory

World Cup quarter finals

The quarter-final makeup of the 2019 Rugby World Cup is now confirmed after Japan’s sensational 28-21 victory over Scotland at the Yokohama Stadium.

Scotland took a 7-0 lead through a Finn Russell try but Japan dominated possession (79%) for the remainder of the half as they ran in three scintillating tries from Kotaro Matsushima, Keita Inagaki and Kenki Fukuoka to take a 21-7 lead into the interval.

Japan looked to have been out of sight at the beginning of the second half when Fukuoka got his second but Scotland staged a miraculous comeback as WP Nel and Zander Fagerson crossed the whitewash to put just seven points between the sides.

However, Scotland were not able to to get the two further tries they needed to secure their spot in the quarter-finals.

Japan’s victory means that they top Pool A with Ireland lying in second place.
