Ireland will have a serious player on their hands this November.
As if we needed any further reminder of Bundee Aki’s quality, we got one anyway last night at the Sportsground in Galway.
The 27-year-old, of course, is now eligible for Ireland after spending three years with Connacht and Joe Schmidt hasn’t hesitated in bringing in the Connacht star at the first opportunity. Schmidt would have got a close look at Aki at the beginning of the season when a brief Ireland camp was held at the team’s base in Carton House, Co. Kildare – a camp which also saw Munster’s Tyler Bleyendaal in attendance.
On Friday night, after Munster had ran into a deserved 10-point lead, Connacht hit back in dramatic fashion with a beautiful backline move which completely dumbfounded the Munster defence.
Aki received the ball in midfield and he had the awareness and skill to unleash a back-door, no-look pass to Jarrad Butler despite knowing that he was about to get smashed by the onrushing Rory Scannell.
The excellent play didn’t stop there, Butler delivered a great step off his left to evade the tackle of Zebo and he then timed his pass to perfection for the supporting Tiernan O’Halloran who got the crucial score.
