The Wallabies got their Spring tour underway with a hard-fought 31-28 over a spirited Barbarians side which included none other than Australian star, Quade Cooper.
However, the victory came at a serious cost for the Wallabies, with Lukhan Tui and Jack Dempsey both exiting the fray with worrying looking injuries. Tui seemed to pull up with a hamstring problem while Dempsey got his leg twisted in a tackle towards the end of the game and was unable to stand up as a result. Both players were very impressive for the Wallabies i recent weeks and their participation will surely be in doubt as Michael Cheika prepares his squad for the tour of Europe next month.
On the pitch, there were some lovely tries scored from both sides. The Barbarians looked to have won the game in the second half when Cooper produced a sumptuous cross-field, kick-pass to Tom Banks before sucking in the last defender and passing to the on-rushing Taqele Naiyaravoro who scored the try.
That gave the Babaas a four-point lead but they found themselves down to 13 players for the last ten minutes thanks to two sin-binnings and the home-side escaped with the victory thanks to a try from an unstoppable rolling maul.
