The Northampton Saints ran out 30-22 winners over Harlequins in an entertaining game at Franklin’s Gardens.
One of the tries of the game was from George North in the first half when he showed incredible strength to power over from close range, despite the efforts of Danny Care and Jack Clifford. It was 19-15 to the Saints at the beginning of the second half but the home side clinched victory thanks to a try from Ahsee Tuala and the boot from Harry Mallinder and Stephen Myler.
There was on flashpoint during the game, however, and that was at the beginning of the second half when after a stop in play, Saints’ Michael Paterson told the referee that Kyle Sinckler had made contact with his eyes at the bottom of a ruck.
Ultimately, the referee deemed the footage to be inconclusive but he did award a penalty to the Saints because Sinckler did remove Paterson’s scrum cap.
As he did this, you can see Sinckler’s hand over Paterson’s face but it’s difficult to determine whether deliberate contact was made with the lock’s eyes.
