The Brumbies have ended their 13-match losing streak against New Zealand opposition by winning out on a 24-12 scoreline against the Hurricanes in Canberra.
A bonus-point victory was guaranteed when Andy Muirhead went over with less than three minutes remaining on the clock after earlier tries from Kyle Godwin, Folau Fainga’a and Rory Arnold.
The win closes the gap between the Brumbies and the Rebels in the Australian conference after the Melbourne franchise lost out to the Waratahs on Friday night.
The Hurricanes, meanwhile, remain in second spot in the New Zealand conference, nine points behind the Crusaders.
The Brumbies got off to the worst possible start when TJ Perenara got the first try of the game after just four minutes on the clock and it was an outrageous effort from the All Blacks star.
The Brumbies, who won a lineout close to their own line, attempted to pass the ball out to their backline only for Perenara to read the move and intercept the ball while already over the try line.
All, Perenara had to do was fall down and ground the ball and he did that to give the Hurricanes a 5-0 lead early on.
