Wasps Release Statement On Christian Wade NFL Report

Reports of Christian Wade’s imminent departure from rugby union to American football took everyone by surprise when the news emerged on Thursday night.

By all accounts, the move seems to be a done deal but which franchise he is set to join and in what type of capacity remains unclear.

The winger was left out of the Wasps squad in their Heineken Champions Cup loss to Leinster last Friday due to illness and he has also been left out of the matchday 23 for their must-win clash with Bath this weekend.

The club have released a statement in response to the widespread reports:

“The Club are aware of speculation regarding the future of Christian Wade.

“Unfortunately, we are unable to make any comment at this time but hope to be able to provide an update in the coming days. We will be making no further comment in the meantime.”

Wade has won just one England cap despite being third in the all-time Premiership try-scoring list. It is understood that the 27-year-old has grown frustrated with his lack of chances at international level – his only cap coming during England’s summer tour of Argentina in 2013 before he received a late call-up to the British and Irish Lions that summer.
