Wasps Hooker Ashley Johnson Suspended Immediately After Failed Drugs Test

Ashley Johnson has been suspended immediately by the RFU after a prohibited substance was reportedly found during a drugs test back in February 2017.

The RFU, as a result, has suspended the player pending further investigation into the matter. The out of competition drugs test took place on February 7 2018.

The player will be unavailable for selection for the foreseeable future. A statement on the Wasps’ website states that the player is currently attempting to investigate the source of the failed test and that he and the club are co-operating fully with the RFU and their investigation.

The club state they are fully supportive of Johnson but cannot comment further due to the nature of the situation.

Here is the statement in full:

The club is aware that a prohibited substance was reportedly found in an out-of-competition doping control sample provided by Ashley Johnson on February 7 2018.

He has been provisionally suspended by the RFU pending final determination of the matter and is therefore currently unavailable for selection.

Ashley is currently investigating the possible source of the substance and both he and the club are co-operating fully with the RFU in this respect.

We are fully supportive of him in this process but are unable to comment any further at this stage due to the confidentiality of legal proceedings.
