Warren Gatland Announces Wales Six Nations Squad

Wales Squad Warren Gatland Six Nations

Warren Gatland has announced his Wales squad for the upcoming Six Nations.

Confidence is high in Wales after the team went through the November internationals with a 100% record which yielded wins over Scotland, Australia, Tonga and South Africa.

The Welsh open their Six Nations campaign with a tricky trip to Paris to take on France on Friday, February 1.

They are on the road for a second week in succession when they take on Italy in Rome which precedes a mouth-watering clash with England in Cardiff.

Their final two fixtures are against Scotland in Edinburgh before they welcome Ireland to the Principality Stadium.

Wales have announced a 39-man squad for the upcoming tournament which you can see below and it is made up of 21 forwards and 18 backs.

In what will come as huge relief for Wales supporters, Wasps’ Thomas Young has been included in the squad.

“We are incredibly excited heading into the 2019 Guinness Six Nations and we are looking forward to kicking the tournament off in Paris against France,” said Wales Head Coach Warren Gatland.

“We have a really experienced squad of players, who have been around a number of campaigns together and we feel we are in a pretty good place going into this huge year.

“We have got a few injuries and have selected a larger squad because of that.  “We initially selected 40 players but that was reduced to 39 on Monday with Taulupe’s injury ruling him out.

“Six Nations rugby is an important time of year for rugby fans, players and coaches alike and we are all looking forward to meeting up and preparing for this year’s championship.”
