Two Players Outside The Top Four Make Premiership Player Of The Year Shortlist

It’s Premiership semi-final week and there is all sorts of excitement in the build-up to what is likely to be two cracking games on Saturday. First up is the Exeter Chiefs’ clash with Saracens at Sandy Park. Can the Chiefs get revenge for last year’s final defeat? And how will Saracens react after the energy-sapping victory over Clermont Auvergne at Murrayfield on Saturday?

In the later kick-off, Wasps host Leicester Tigers at the Ricoh Arena. Many are predicting a Wasps victory but you never know with the Tigers, they will relish the underdog tag and an upset could well be on the cards.

With all this going on, it might easy to forget that it is award season and the shortlist for the Premiership Player of the Year has just been announced. As expected, the majority of the list is made up of players who are featuring in this weekend’s semi-finals but there are also some players who have impressed from the other teams too.

Two Wasps players are included in Jimmy Gopperth and Joe Launchbury. Exeter Chiefs have Olly Woodburn and Saracens have Michael Rhodes.

Outside of the Top 4, Newcastle Falcons and Northampton Saints both feature with Mark Wilson and Louis Picamoles respectively.

The winner is due to be announced on Wednesday night at an award ceremony in London and it’s is really difficult to pick out a winner from the nominees – all have been great for their respective clubs in the Premiership season this year.
