The first round of the HSBC World Sevens Series gets underway next week with the first leg taking place in Dubai.
The competition continues to go from strength to strength and this season looks like it will be another exciting edition of the seven-man code of the game.
Wales’ men’s and women’s teams will be travelling to Dubai to take place in the competition and they will be sporting a brand new jersey which we must say it certainly stands out.

At a first glance we thought there were hearts littered across the front of the jersey but according to the media release associated with the kit launch, these are, in fact, dragon scales.
“The dragon plays a significant part in Welsh identity, so the prominence of the dragon-scale pattern on our kit is very pleasing,” said head coach Gareth Williams. “The symbolism is particularly powerful for us because we’ve been cultivating a feeling of Welshness in the squad for a while now; learning about our nation’s heritage and the Welsh language in order to strengthen our bond as a team.”
The Welsh men’s sevens team have been drawn in Pool C alongside Olympic champions Fiji, Australia and Russia. Meanwhile, the Wales women’s side will take part in the Dubai International Invitation which will prove good preparation for the Commonwealth games.
