Racing 92 got off to a great start in the first round of the Top 14 as they recorded a 9-25 victory over Toulon at the Stade Félix-Mayol.
The Parisian outfit were 6-3 down at halftime until Finn Russell sparked into life at the beginning of the second half when he scored 12 points including two tries on his Top 14 debut.
With a six-point lead, the away side intercepted a loose pass from Rhys Webb and Juan Imhoff ran clear to secure the win for his side. Russell added another penalty towards the end of the game to make sure of the result.
There were a number of top performers for Racing and that includes Simon Zebo. The former Munster and Ireland fullback posted some impressive number in his 80-minute appearance.
Zebo made 76 metres from 11 carries and this included two offloads, two linebreaks and five defenders beaten. He also made five kicks throughout the game as he put that trusted left boot to good use.
Russell was also instrumental on his debut as the Scotsman made 83 metres from 10 carries, scoring two tries and contributing 20 of the 25 points his side scored in their first win of the season.
Ireland’s Donnacha Ryan also put in a huge shift with nine carries and 11 tackles.
Next up for Racing is a mouth-watering clash as they hose Clermont Auvergne at the U Arena.
