Watch: Silky Passing From These Auckland Forwards Puts The Backs To Shame

Just after we saw Jordie Barrett winning a lineout for the Hurricanes in their 22-10 loss to the Crusaders in Christchurch on Saturday morning, we came across footage of the other side of the coin in the Auckland Blues’ victory over the Cheetahs in Eden Park on Friday morning.

This time around it was the forwards to get their moment in the sun as Patrick Tuipulotu bundled over for a try in the 34th minute. The towering lock was clearly keen to get on the ball as he reaches for Rieko Iaone’s pass which ends up in the hands of tighthead, Charlie Faumuina.

Faumuina carries the ball and releases to Scott Scrafton just before he is tackled. Scrafton then runs up the tramlines before giving it to Tuipulotu basketball style. Tuipulotu continues his rampaging run and you can see him looking for the offload before realising to himself – “Hey, I’m over 6″6′ and and 125 kg, I think my momentum will carry me over here.”

And that’s exactly what he does as Torsten Van Jaarsveld’s tackle just isn’t enough to stop the marauding All Black.

Two locks and a tighthead showing some silky handling skills – what more could you ask for?

An exciting game at Eden Park which yielded nine tries despite the poor conditions and it keeps the Blues’ slim hopes of a playoff spot intact.
