Just as the news of Lions CEO, John Feehan’s, statement in response to Sean O’Brien’s initial comments which were made during the week with regards to his opinion on the coaching during the tour broke, O’Brien himself has released a further statement in response to the furore which has developed over the past 24 hours.
The reaction to O’Brien’s comments has been mixed. Some are of the opinion that he was dead right to make such comments and that criticism should be welcomed. Others believe that it was disrespectful to the coaching staff and to the achievements of the Lions during the summer.
Nevertheless, it has caused quite a commotion and O’Brien has decided to release a statement to further clarify the comments he made. He doesn’t back down from his initial comments and firmly believes that the Lions should have won the series.

In this writer’s opinion, it’s great to see a professional rugby player stand by his initial comments in the belief that what he is doing will make the Lions stronger in 2021.
This media attention will undoubtedly be unwanted by O’Brien but such is the rarity that a player is so openly honest, this issue may take a while to run its course.
