Joe Schmidt confirmed immediately after Ireland’s 28-17 victory over Argentina at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday night that Leinster flanker Sean O’Brien has indeed broken his arm.
O’Brien looked to be in considerable discomfort just before halftime when he receiving medical attention on the pitch.
The Tullow Tank walked off the pitch with his arm in a make-shift sling as Ireland supporters began to fear the worst.
Schmidt spoke to RTÉ immediately after the match where he confirmed the injury and O’Brien’s need to go for surgery.
“Sean’s broken his right arm,” Schmidt said.
“He’ll need surgery on that.”
With regards to Robbie Henshaw, who felt his hamstring tighten during the warm-up, Schmidt said that it is a “wait and see” scenario.
“Robbie, I’d be hopeful he’ll be ok but we have to just wait and see.”
