The World Rugby rankings could be set for a major shakeup this weekend as three different teams could overtake the All Blacks as the world’s number one side just a few weeks out from the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
Wales, who had a huge opportunity last weekend to become the number one ranked side if they had beaten England, will have another chance in the return fixture on Saturday at the Principality Stadium.
If Wales beat England in Cardiff this weekend, they will be the number one side in the world, regardless of the result between New Zealand and Australia in the Bledisloe Cup decider.
Similarly, if England beat Wales by more than 15 points, they will become the world’s number one side.
Ireland, even though they are not playing this weekend, could become the number one side in the world dependent on other results going their way.
Joe Schmidt’s side will need a draw to occur in Cardiff and a draw or Wallabies win over the All Blacks at Eden Park to both take place in order for Ireland to achieve the top ranking.
