Paul O’Connell Takes Up Coaching Role In The Top 14

paul o'connell

According to reports in Ireland, Paul O’Connell has taken up a coaching role in the Top 14.

O’Connell will join the Parisian outfit, Stade Francais, as their new forwards coach and he will join a background team which includes Heyneke Meyer, Pieter De Villiers, Julian Dupuy, John McFarland and Mike Prendergast.

Prendergast coached Oyannax last season and previous to that, he was part of Bernard Jackman’s staff at Grenoble. It wouldn’t be a surprise if the former Munster scrum-half played a part in securing O’Connell’s services at the French club.

O’Connell has been involved in coaching since his retirement at the beginning of 2016 and most recently he was forwards coach of the Ireland U20 side.

According to a report by Donn O’Sullivan in The Limerick Leader, O’Connell will move to Paris in the coming weeks to begin his new role immediately as the new Top 14 season gets underway on the last weekend of August.

Stade Francais have teased O’Connell’s arrival with this video.

According to the report, the announcement will be confirmed later this afternoon.

UPDATE:

The move has since been confirmed by Stade Francais.
