Ireland U20s Boss Noel McNamara Takes Up New Role With Leinster [Report]

Ireland U20s head coach Noel McNamara has been named as Leinster’s new Academy manager according to Des Berry, writing in the Irish Independent

McNamara has spent the last two years in charge of the U20 national side where he guided Ireland to a Grand Slam earlier this year and then to the World Championships in Argentina which culminated in an eighth-placed finish.

McNamara is highly-rated in Irish rugby circles and he has was recently linked to a position in the Munster setup after the departure of Felix Jones and Jerry Flannery.

However, the Clare native’s responsibilities will now rest with Leinster as he takes over from Peter Smyth as the province’s new Academy manager. Smyth left the role to take up a position as the IRFU’s Head of Elite Player Development.

McNamara has held previous roles with Leinster. He was head coach of the Leinster U20 & Development team and Ireland U18 schools in addition to assistant coach for Leinster ‘A’.

It remains to be seen whether McNamara will focus full time on this new role or if he will able to combine his duties with the Ireland U20s.
