Nick Abendanon has been enjoying a successful career in France since he made the move from Bath at the beginning of the 2014/2015 season.
A key component in the Clermont Auvergne machine, Abdendanon has helped contribute to Clermont’s relative success which culminated in a long-awaited Top14 triumph last season. The European Cup continues to elude them, however, after finishing runners up in 2013, 2015 and 2017. The most recent heartbreak was to Saracens at Murrayfield in May.
Such is the calibre of the club, they will continue to be competing for honours this season and but they got their season off to a poor start when they fell to a 32-25 defeat away to Bordeaux Begles. However, they still produced one of the tries of the weekend when Remy Grosso finished off a length of the pitch move.
It began when Alivereti Raka picked up the ball on the wing and unleashing a huge fend on a Bordeaux player before offloading to Remi Lamerat. Lamerat then passed to Abendanon who sprinted for the line but was caught just short by Bordeaux’s Mahamadou Diaby.
Abendanon then produced a ridiculous no-look offload which found a teammate before the ball was sent to Grosso who dotted down.
The offload itself deserves its own GIF. Check it out again below.
Clermont face rivals Toulon at home next weekend.
