EPCR, the governing body of the Champions Cup, have confirmed that they will conduct an investigation into the ugly scenes which occurred during the Pool 4 clash between Saracens and Munster at Allianz Park on Saturday.
During the second half of Saracens’ 15-6 victory over Munster, Jamie George took offence from a comment from a member of Munster’s backroom staff who was on the sideline.
When George attempted to approach the Munster staff member, the whole situation kicked off which led to both sets of players pushing and shoving each other aggressively on the sideline.
After the incident, BT Sport interviewed Saracens’ defence and forwards coach Alex Sanderson who revealed that a Munster medic allegedly made a derogatory comment about George’s weight.
EPCR have released the following statement where they confirm that a formal investigation will take place.
“EPCR has decided to investigate incidents which occurred during the second half of the Heineken Champions Cup, Round 4 match between Saracens and Munster Rugby at Allianz Park yesterday (Saturday, 14 December)
“Information will now be sought from the match officials and from both clubs, and EPCR will be making no further comment until the investigation has been completed.”
