The Christmas interpros begin this weekend as Munster, Leinster, Connacht and Ulster face off against one other.
Friday night sees Munster travel to the Kingspan Stadium to take on Ulster while Leinster host Connacht at the RDS on Saturday.
With the IRFU’s player management programme kicking in over the festive period, the provinces’ Ireland representatives will only see limited game time, somewhere between 1-2 games depending on the individual player.
Looking at the respective team announcements for Munster and Leinster this weekend, both sides have rested the majority of their international stars for the respective clashes against Ulster and Connacht.
This likely means that both teams will go fully-loaded for the 29th December Thomond Park clash.
Regular season fixtures between Munster and Leinster often result in entertaining games regardless of the sides that are put out but they generally fall at stages in the calendar where the provinces are required to rest players.
That doesn’t look to be the case next weekend as those lucky enough to secure one of the 26,267 sold-out tickets will have the opportunity to see some of the country’s best players go toe-to-toe in this bitter rivalry.
