Ross Moriarty: Sexton Gets Special Treatment From Referees

Johnny Sexton and Ross Moriarty

Ross Moriarty believes that Johnny Sexton gets special treatment from referees as a result of his status.

Moriarty faced off against Sexton for the Dragons when they travelled to the RDS to take on Leinster a few weeks ago, a game which they suffered a heavy defeat.

Moriarty received a yellow card in that game for an off-the-ball challenge on the Irish out-half but he believes that if it was the other way around, Sexton would have not been sanctioned.

“Some may say it was harsh [the yellow card], some may say it was fair, but if Johnny did that against me in that game I know for a fact he would not have had anything happen to him,” the 24-year-old told the BBC Wales Scum V programme.

“It’s nice to see little players running around making a fool of big players but when a big player gets hold of a smaller one there’s always a big scene.

“Most players will have had something happen to them if they hit Johnny Sexton off the ball because obviously, he has a big pull in the game these days which is quite sad.”
