Zebre To Go Under Italian Rugby Federation Control And Will Participate In The PRO12

News broke this Monday morning that ‘Zebre Rugby Club Company’ wanted to pull out of the PRO12.

A statement released by the Italian Rugby Federation (FIR) stated that they had received communication from Zebre outlining their intentions to withdraw from the tournament. A meeting will take place today in Parma to determine how exactly this will transpire. It remained to be seen whether a new company was to be formed to operate Zebre as a professional rugby club or if the club would be dissolved and a new club created in its place.

The statement released by FIR is as follows (via Google Translate):

Deliberate the establishment of the ” Zebre Rugby Club Company ” to ensure the participation of two Italian teams in the competition in order to comply with the agreements in place with the Celtic Rugby Board, and determined to appoint the new director of the new company to Mr. Andrea Dalledonne and Mr. Diego Rivetti as the only Mayor, FIR leaders will meet on Monday 24 July in Parma – together with the new directors – members of the staff and players of the franchise to start the operating processes of  “Zebre Rugby Club”  and define as soon as possible Contracts with technical cadres, athletes and staff of the new Society.
