Leinster continued their relentless march to achieve the top spot in Conference B of the Guinness PRO14 thanks to a thumping 52-7 win against the Ospreys at the RDS.
Three first-half tries from Conor O’Brien, Scott Penny and Nick McCarthy gave Leinster a 24-0 lead at halftime and it didn’t get any better for Allen Clarke’s side in the second half.
Further tries from Scott Fardy, Ed Byrne and Max Deegan gave Leinster a 45-0 lead with 15 minutes remaining.
There was no let up for the Welsh side as replacement hooker Bryan Byrne got on the scoresheet when he received a lovely offload from his brother, Ed, to crash over with five minutes remaining.
This gave Leinster a 52-0 lead only for the shutout to be thwarted by a late Hanno Dirksen try.
Meanwhile, Ulster suffered a 29-12 defeat away to the Scarlets at Parc y Scarlets which sees them lose ground on Leinster in Conference B.
The northern province got off to an excellent start when scrum-half Dave Shanahan went over after 15 minutes as Billy Burns converted to give Ulster a 0-7 lead.
However, the Scarlets hit back through Werner Kruger, Kieran Hardy and Kieron Fonotia to give Wayne Pivac’s side a 22-7 lead at halftime.
Tom Prydie extended Scarlets’ lead to 29-7 with a 61st-minute try but Ulster could only respond with one of their own through Jonny Stewart with 15 minutes remaining as the Welsh side saw out the game to win 29-12.
