It hasn’t been the best of starts to the new season for the Leicester Tigers. The Welford Road outfit lost their first two games of the new campaign as they succumbed to 23-27 defeat at home to Bath and a 24-11 loss away to the Northampton Saints.
They finally got their opening win of the new season at the weekend as they dispatched Gloucester 24-10 at Welford Road but ultimately, there may be some concern in the East Midlands club that falling behind their rivals so early in the campaign could prove problematic as the season progresses.
Next up for the Tigers is another huge game as they visit the Twickenham Stoop to take on Harlequins on Saturday and their preparations have been boosted by the news the club have signed Tongan international, Afa Pakalani.
The 25-year-old received his first caps for Tonga during the summer when they took on Fiji and Samoa. He also represented the Australia Sevens side in 2014 in addition to playing for the Waratahs in Super Rugby.
Tigers’ head coach, Matt O’Connor, told the club’s official website that he is really looking forward to working with the player who can play at both full-back and wing.
“Afa is a good player in the back three, he has played his first Test rugby this year and he is a good age profile for us.
“We’ve been looking for a bit of depth in our backline options and we look forward to working with him.”
In addition to this, the Tigers have also added former Scotland international prop Kyle Traynor and young hooker Jake Kerr to the squad.
