Watch: La Rochelle Hooker Burns Ma’a Nonu On Way To Glorious 80m Try

La Rochelle fell to their sixth defeat of the season as they succumbed to a 20-27 defeat at home to Toulon in the Top 14 on Sunday.

The win brings Toulon up to third in the table, while La Rochelle tumbles down to sixth, clinging on to the final playoff spot.

The home side had a six-point advantage going into the final quarter of the game but they were pegged back through the boot of Anthony Belleau, who was among a long list of players dismissed by Jacques Brunel, and a late try from former All Black Ma’a Nonu.

Nonu’s try was a piece of redemption for the 35-year-old, considering he was among a few players who let La Rochelle hooker Pierre Bourgait steamroll through en route to an 80m try in the first half.

Bourgait gets through Dave Attwood, Jonathan Wisniewski and Nonu. His pace gets him past Attwood before a sumptuous dummy fools Wisniewski and finally, the hooker’s brilliant acceleration gets him past the despairing challenge of Nonu.

It’s a quality try from an unexpected source and it will surely live long in the memory for Bourgait who signed a new contract with the club last week.
