Leinster have confirmed that Johnny Sexton has been ruled out of the province’s final Champions Cup clash with Wasps at the Ricoh Arena on Sunday.
The eastern province provided an injury update at their media briefing today and they confirmed that Sexton is “continuing to rehab a tendon issue in his knee” and “will not be involved this weekend”.
Luke McGrath, who suffered a knee injury in the win against Toulouse on Saturday, will be out of action for eight weeks after damaging ligaments. This looks to rule McGrath out for the entirety of the Six Nations which will be the second season in a row which the scrum-half has been unavailable to Ireland at this time of year.
In more positive news for both Leinster and Ireland, Devin Toner, Sean O’Brien and Robbie Henshaw will return to full training this week and they are in contention for Sunday’s trip to Wasps.
Rob Kearney has picked up a low-grade quad injury and Dan Leavy has picked up a calf injury and the province will further assess these two players this week.
