Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt has named his matchday 23 for Saturday’s clash with Italy at Soldier Field as Joey Carbery, who will make just his fourth start in green, gets the nod ahead of Ross Byrne at out-half.
Carbery will form a half-back partnership with Leinster’s Luke McGrath while they will hope to supply quick, accurate ball to the centre partnership of Bundee Aki and Garry Ringrose. The back-three will be compiled of Jacob Stockdale and Andrew Conway on the wings and Jordan Larmour (first start) at fullback.
Up front, Schmidt has opted for Jack McGrath, Niall Scannell and Andrew Porter as the front-three with Tadhg Beirne (first start) and Quinn Roux packing down behind them in the second row.
Finally, the loose forwards are made up of Rhys Ruddock, who captains the side, Josh van der Flier and Jack Conan.
Sean Cronin, Dave Kilcoyne, Finlay Bealham, Devin Toner, Jordi Murphy, John Cooney, Ross Byrne and Will Addison are on the bench.
Addison and Byrne look set to make their debuts for Ireland at some stage during the second half.
